Alvadam Charity Group: financial, material and personal support for social initiatives and projects

The Alvadam Charity Group seeks for their and other charitable funds (wealthy) individuals, companies and funds, wishing to lend substance to their social involvement, to give financial, material and personal support for social initiatives and projects within and outside of the Netherlands. The support requested could relate to:

▪ Financial support. Examples: making financial contributions to social initiatives and projects, with the aid of project financing or a Named Fund, focussing on one of the following fields: fighting poverty & foreign aid, pastoral work & diaconate, emancipation & job opportunities, youth & elderly work, humanitarian & human rights, microcredit & professionalization, environment & health, education & training, science & research, health care & welfare.

▪ Material support.
Examples: making goods available to social initiatives or projects, such as (office) furniture, means of transport, (written off) computers, building materials, or meeting or office space, photocopying facilities, etc.

▪ Personal support. Examples: famous people associate their name with a good cause (in the capacity of ambassador), and professionals dedicate themselves to social initiatives or projects of charitable NGOs free of charge, e.g. by providing specialist advice or practical help.

The significance of the term ‘sustainable society’

The main aim of the charitable funds of the Alvadam Charity Group is to contribute to a sustainable society, anywhere in the world. In (global) society, a wave of consciousness has swollen, with people realizing that we have to meet the needs not only of our generation but also of future generations. And in the business world corporate social responsibility (CSR) has gradually become a new standard. To this end it is important to be aware of the fact that the most significant global environmental problems were the consequence of the poverty in one part of the world and the unsustainable consumption and production of the other part of the world. For that reason there were calls for sustainable development as early as the 1980s.

Sustainable development and CSR can see to it that we do not jeopardize the needs of future generations. CSR stands for creating optimum equilibrium between People, Planet and Profit. There are now plenty of examples of CSR to be found which also generate turnover and profit. At the same time it is the job of government to raise people's (or groups of people's) awareness of the fact that we cannot ignore sustainability and that we have to make the most of the opportunities to improve sustainability now. But even social organizations, including charitable NGOs, can make a significant contribution towards a sustainable society.

In order to be able to collectively build a sustainable future, naturally we need to know what we mean by this. Only then will we be able to determine what the current level of sustainability is and how far removed we still are from full sustainability. The Stichting Duurzame Samenleving (Sustainable Society Foundation) has developed a new tool for this: the Sustainable Society Index (SSI).
